We made it to Paris this morning! We got little sleep on the train last night, but we are excited to be here and that carried us through most of our day. This morning we searched everywhere for wireless internet to check email and for Eric to finish his last school assignment (due tomorrow by midnight). We ended up squatting for a few hours in McDonald's (which is what we usually end up doing when we need internet or free bathrooms in a foreign land), until it got so busy for lunch that they turned off to internet to get rid of people like us. Oops. So we found a hotel, checked in a worked a little more. We showered and layed down for a quick nap.
3 hours later we woke up from this quick nap. A little discouraging. It was about 6:30pm and very dark at this point. But, what better time than night to see our first real views of the City of Lights right? We mapped out our route to see some big ticket items at night, and then headed out.
Night 1 in Paris we saw:
Moulin Rouge - Which we did not go looking for, we ran into on our way. |
Arc de Triompe |
Eiffel Tower - I promise we'll get a better one than this. We're saving the up close visit for a night when we have much more time. |
City Hall - You should have seen the lights on this one. It was quite a show. |
Notre Dame - I can't wait to go inside this one. I'm excited to see the gargoyles up close too. |
Then after all that, we were hungry for a good meal. We went to a restaurant called Breakfast in America. I bet you can guess what I ordered: a real American breakfast. Pancakes and bacon and eggs and sips of Eric's freshly squeezed orange juice. It was so great! Breakfast like that don't exist in Europe. Eric got a really delicious burger and we shared the two meals. It was a really nice evening, and totally made up for the not so exciting start to the day.
